5 Steps for Easy Corporate Tax Filing in the UAE

October 28, 2025 · Avanor Consulting Services

Filing corporate tax in the UAE doesn't have to be complicated. With careful preparation and clear records, businesses can complete the process efficiently and stay compliant with the law. The following steps outline what's needed for a smooth filing experience.

1. Prepare Accurate Financial Statements

Your financial statements form the basis of your corporate tax return. To ensure accuracy:

  • Prepare accounts according to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Reconcile your ledgers, trial balance, and journal entries.
  • Use audited financial statements if required for your business.

Accurate financial records help reduce errors and support compliance during audits or reviews.

2. Confirm Tax Residency and Business Structure

Tax rules vary depending on whether your company operates on the mainland, in a free zone, or as a foreign branch. To comply with UAE tax law:

  • Check if your free zone business qualifies as a Qualifying Free Zone Person (QFZP), which may allow certain income to be taxed at 0%.
  • Keep your trade license and registration details up to date.

Understanding your company's structure and tax status helps ensure that the correct rules are applied when filing.

3. Separate Taxable and Exempt Income

To calculate your taxable income correctly, you need to distinguish between taxable and exempt earnings. This involves starting from your accounting profit and adjusting it according to UAE Corporate Tax Law, and identifying income that may be exempt.

Keeping taxable and exempt income recorded separately makes filing and future audits easier.

4. Keep Proper Documentation

Organized documentation is key to meeting compliance requirements. Businesses should:

  • Keep complete records of income, expenses, and adjustments for at least seven years.
  • Prepare transfer pricing documentation if related-party transactions exist.
  • Maintain a clear chart of accounts and supporting schedules.

Good record-keeping ensures transparency and simplifies any review by the Federal Tax Authority (FTA).

5. File and Pay on Time

Timely filing helps avoid penalties or interest charges. To stay on schedule:

  • Submit your corporate tax return within nine months after the end of your financial year (for example, a year ending 31 December 2025 must be filed by 30 September 2026).
  • Ensure your business is registered with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA).
  • Double-check your calculations before submission to prevent errors.

Meeting deadlines reflects good business practice and ensures full compliance with UAE tax requirements.

Take Control of Your Corporate Tax Compliance

Staying compliant with corporate tax rules is an ongoing process. Keeping clear records, understanding your tax position, and meeting filing deadlines can help your business manage obligations efficiently and avoid issues later on.
